When six middle school classmates are gathered together for a weekly chat, they fear this new unfamiliar and wonder what their teacher thinks they are supposed to get out of the experience. After all, they don't imagine they have much in common. But recently one of their fathers has disappeared and this has cast a pall over the class.

This was so wholesome yet so important and informative. I felt so connected to the characters, especially Esteban. Esteban is a Dominican kid that fears that his dad will be deported back to the Dominican republic. As a person with Dominican parents, I fear this every day. I might've cried a few times if I'm being honest.
I would recommend this book to everyone regardless of age!!
Over a school year, classmates from a “special” class bond by telling their personal stories. Woodson allows her characters to delve into many issues: immigration, race, class, privilege, etc. while reminding all of us to “harbor each other. Even strangers. Everyday.”
