Ideally, I'd give this a 3.5. I enjoyed this book. I found the characters interesting, and it was a relaxing read. The ending felt a little off to me somehow, though, and I think that's most of why I'm rounding down instead of up. It's not so much the events, but rather the pacing.
The shapeshifter thing is new to me, but this was a great introduction to it. (As my friend says, it's a good gateway book. She actually means it's a good gateway to Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, but it fits here, too. :) ) By about halfway through, I'd already decided I'd be interested in reading more of this series. I most liked the parts where the two cultures mixed after a certain event, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that continues.
