Headscarves and Hymens

So filled with rage.

Barnes and Noble, of course. My addiction. I initially went to see if they had Adam Nevill's newest book, but they didn't. So I puttered around sorrowfully and discovered THIS. Since I'm a feminist and always want to read some things I haven't read before, I bought it. Because I am a woman, and I grew up in a conservative religious household (although not all that conservative compared to many others, and not Muslim). I wanted to see what a woman who grew up in another branch of Abrahamic monotheism had to say post-breaking out, since I had never read Ms Eltahawy.

So filled with rage and sorrow. I cannot even begin to describe the feelings I had whilst reading this. So much of it reminded me of more extreme versions of things I knew about.

This book is important. And I'm glad she brings up the Western tendency to let things slide because of ‘cultural differences.' Or because, y'know, OIL. Evil is evil. And evil should be fought wherever it is found, whether in Western leaders or Eastern, or the average Joe on the street.
