Rock was the first Anyta Sunday book I read, and I loved and adored it so much that I thought I'd go back and read her other books.
I started with Leo Loves Aries, which I also liked. Then I tried some of her novellas and I liked those too. I thought I was on my way to finding a new favourite author, or one I liked a lot at least.
Then I read this book.
I can't reconcile the writing in Rock with this. It doesn't feel like the same author wrote it at all (except for the whole ‘one guy is totally oblivious whilst the other pines' thing that Anyta likes). It's incredibly badly written, like hasn't been properly edited and has infuriating dialogue. It was incredibly hard to get through and is so incredibly drastically different to her other work that I kind of want to forget that it exists/I've read it.
There's minimal chemistry between these two characters, and it all moves way too fast.
Essentially Trey is Shane's twin's ex boyfriend. They've been together 3 years, but a week after ending their relationship, Shane and Trey are together? It feels like an incredible disservice to this supposed sibling love Shane has for his sister, but also it just feels off to me. There is no way he'd date his sister's ex that soon, even if he did really like him, unless he was immensely rude and selfish. Why am I meant to root for people like that?
Also the side characters fell in love after a week too, and that just doesn't happen in real life.
Nothing felt real or believable and I just finished it feeling incredibly frustrated, and then there's more books after this!
Please, love yourself, and read almost any other Anyta Sunday book.
