Absolutely, hands down, one of my favorite reads of this year. Looking to avenge the deaths of her family, Sarah joins the British Secret Service, and begins working to help bring an end to war, the best that she can. She is entirely dedicated to her work, going on a dangerous mission. But when someone is determined to be a mole, the mission and work become that much more dangerous.
I seriously could not put this book down. Talk about a book hangover the next day at work! This was a charged read, as you are holding your breath, waiting to see what is going to happen next.
Perfection in a book!
2.5 - WWII stories involving MI5 are among my favorite sources of media at the moment, so I was incredibly excited when I received this book. It turned out to be just okay.
(Potential spoilers from the first book below)
Sarah is on a mission to find her Nazi-sympathizing father who left his daughter (Sarah's sister) for dead in the wake of a bombing. He catches onto the scheme quickly, eventually ordering his men to kidnap Sarah. There are a surprising amount of plot points in this book. Some work better than others, but nothing feels more forced than the romance.
Yet again, I realized after I started reading that this is not the first book in the series. It can sort of read as a standalone, however, I might have been better able to connect with the characters reading in order. Overall, I struggled to get invested in the book as a whole, especially after some particularly harsh and unnecessary remarks about Catholicism.
A huge thanks to Harper Collins/Harper 360 for sending me an ARC to read and review!
