Hexes and Vexes

There is nothing better than a magical mystery that has comedy in it. Laura Greenwood and Arizona Tape team up again to introduce us to a new set of mysteries with “The Amethyst's Wand Shop Mysteries”.

Hexes and Vexes kicks off the series with too many laughs and an intriguing mystery. I do not even know where to start with this review. (laugh) Okay, let's start with one of my new favorite familiars and that is Herb. I love a cat that does not bother you all the time to pet and feed it. Herb doesn't always agree with Amy, but he is fairly silent about it. I should probably mention that Herb is a gargoyle. Yeah, you probably have the same face that Detective Ambrose had when he watched Amy talk to Herb. (laugh)

Poor Ambrose. Greenwood and Tape have created the perfect comedic straight person for Amy. Amy is off-the-rails humorous and Ambrose just stands there. The duo are pretty funny together.

I haven't mentioned the mystery yet and it is solid. I love the magical history of the wand and their making. (There is no Author's note to say whether this comes from actual research...bummer.) I love the idea of different woods having different powers and it makes sense to me because cedar is best to side your house due to water prevention. So why wouldn't different woods have different abilities? This is why I said that the mystery is solid. It may be magical in nature, but there is truth behind the words.

Amy has always wanted to be a police officer and now here is her chance. She has different connections, plus pull in areas she did not know she has. I can see the avenues that Greenwood and Tape can travel in and take us with them.

I knew when I saw these two authors together that it was going to be good and they did not fail me. I cannot wait to see where Amy takes us next because y'all know she is totally leading this team right?!
