I am not officially and formally a Rom-Com kind of guy, but I gave in to a desire for mindless humor and decided to play “High Fidelity” with John Cusack the other day. I've always enjoyed the wit and the quirkiness of the supporting characters, and I've always had a problem with the choppiness of the movie as Rob horndogs after one girl or the other.
Having discovered that the movie was based on a book, I decided to give the book a shot, figuring that it would probably be nothing like the movie.
Surprise! Much of the dialogue is taken directly out of the book. Likewise, the supporting characters, Dick and Barry - played by Jack Black and Todd Louiso - were spot on characterizations from the book.
So, you can relive the movie, but the book is actually better because it makes more sense in terms of the plotline and story development.
I enjoyed the movie; I thought the book was better by a hair.
5:
This Rob guy STINKS! I wish his life were way worse.
Actually this was a very entertaining story and I sure do love reading about a big-headed loser just completely torpedoing his entire life because he's afraid of committing to a beautiful woman that's way too good for him. Also the conclusion sucked so bad, it was SO fitting, it was great. I'd never watched the movie before this but I was pleasantly surprised that it was John Cusack as Rob, he's such a Some Guy kind of man.
