I said something along the lines of “but think of all the authors of messed up books that would be sad if we stopped reading messed up books?”, the author of this book said “I would indeed be sad”. Long story short I did the only reasonable thing I could do when faced with an author whose sense of humor is obviously as impeccable as mine, I went and found one of his books to read. I was not disappointed with the humor in this book, it was, indeed, on point.

The book contains plenty of pop culture references that I found quite fun (story takes place during Katsucon and exists at the intersection of zombie survival story and Lovecraftian horror so most of them actually fit the story for real) but unfortunately there's also about 5 too many contrived Harry Potter references for me (honestly hadn't the rest of the book been so highly entertaining that many HP references would have been an auto DNF for me).

There were also things I didn't know I needed such as the Necronomicon being a POV character and a “heroine” with a tendency to nickname things. The story doesn't drag its feet and the “magic” system is interesting and avoids making the main character overpowered.
