And now Hiroki might have another secret to keep! Lately he's been coming home from school talking enthusiastically about a certain boy, his classmate Daigo! This series floats between mom's POV and each of her kid's POV. Both Mrs. Aoyama and the little brother. Both suspect that the oldest, Hiroki, is gay. A series of events occur where Mrs. Aoyama is trying to understand Hiroki and his struggle to come out (we are all assuming at this point that Hiroki is gay) all the while being incredibly positive about the whole thing. She slips in her opinion in a neutral kind of way where it makes Hiroki feel more comfortable in his feelings and thoughts. Little brother is just accepting no questions asked. He doesn't ponder on things too much. He's a cool kid. She's a cool mom.
I think it's important to note that this mangaka is gay and it's so incredibly awesome to get the perspective of someone who's truth is reflected in their art form. The mangaka confesses that while completing this manga he confessed/came out to his mom. So one can say that she is somewhat like the Hiroki's mom. He states that mom is following him on social media and just genuinely interested in him and his life. It was sweet. I believe, based on his self portrait, that the mangaka is older and so that is a long time to keep some pretty important parts of yourself hidden from your mom.
I really do appreciate this manga series. On to Vol 3.
