Honestly, this is a 4.75 star read. I really could not put this one down. Despite being OVER vampires, I saw this one as more of an alternate history/steampunk story. Incarnation is a page turner, and one does not have to love Dracula to enjoy it. Lucy is a true kick ass heroine (the men do not jump in to save her every time there is danger) but she is restricted by society's rules. Far from being a typical vampire novel, Lucy is something new. In fact, there are quite a few ideas in this story that I have never seen before.
I am hoping for a sequel, perhaps one that takes place outside of London and that delves into the lives of other magical creatures that appear only briefly in this one.
Super thumbs up for a total lack of needless romance/sex in this one. I can recommend this one without cringing to my YA's who may be interested. Just a note: the back cover indicates that Stoker himself is a major character in the story and I did not find that to be so. Also, I would have liked a bit more science; ie, a description of the “Teslaways”, as I have it stuck in my head that they are like Segway scooters. This is the steampunk side of me just wanted more description.
I highly recommend this for fans of Domino Men and The Parasol Protectorate series (which, alas, I can not recommend to my YA readers at the library).
