Into the Wild

The main objective of Into the Wild is to inform the reader about who Chris McCandless was, how he came to venture into the Alaskan wilderness and met his fate while living off the land.
El objetivo principal de Hacia Rutas Salvajes es informar al lector de quién era Chris McCandless, cómo llegó a aventurarse hacia la naturaleza de Alaska y conoció su destino mientras estaba ahí viviendo de la tierra.

I started reading this book for a book club (which, if you're anything like me and like to make notes of everything, do not recommend) and dived into it looking only to know of McCandless' adventure but found his full backstory plus a search of what could've ended his voyage so abruptley and the telling of other's travels. Honestly, I didn't care for the latter very much.
Comencé a leer este libro para un club de lectura (que, si eres algo parecido a mi y te encanta hacer notas de todo, no lo recomiendo) y me sumergí en él buscando solamente el saber de la aventura de McCandless pero encontré toda su historia más una búsqueda de qué pudo haber terminado su viaje de manera tan abrupta y el relato de viajes de otros. Honestamente, no me importaron mucho estos últimos.

However, I think I understand what seems to be Jon Krakauer's purpose for including these stories, amongst of which was his own: trying to understand Chris. By comparing what drove the other wanderers, even in different eras, to become a nomad, detach from civilization or take their chances climbing a dangerous mountain, the author is trying to gather as much information as possible to try and comprehend the works of McCandless' mind and motivations; which resulted interesting.
Sin embargo, creo que entiendo lo que parece ser el propósito de Jon Krakauer al incluir estas historias, entre las cuales estaba la suya: intentar comprender a Chris. Al comparar lo que condujo a otros hombres errantes, incluso en diferentes épocas, a convertirse en nómadas, desligarse de la civilización o arriesgarse a escalar una montaña peligrosa, el autor está tratando de recopilar tanta información como le es posible para intentar entender cómo trabajaban la mente y motivaciones de Chris; lo cual resultó interesante.

I liked that Krakauer does not push an opinion on why Chris did what he did, more than he tries to help understand why. I also liked the account of all the travels that led him to the Alaskan bush and not only the telling of when he actually went in there. That, along with her sister's Carine input, was something I quite enjoyed.
Me gustó que Krakauer no presiona una opinión sobre por qué Chris hizo lo que hizo más que lo que intenta ayudar a comprender por qué. También me gustó la cuenta de todos los viajes que lo llevaron a los bosques de Alaska y no sólo el relato de cuando ya estaba ahí. Eso, en conjunto con las aportaciones de su hermana Carine, fue algo que disfruté bastante.

Though I must say there were some parts more dense than I expected that made me put off the book for a while and the -somewhat- constant recount of the hate responses to Chris' adventure wasn't something I really aprecciated, I think there's something for everyone in this book.
Either if you're looking for a travel or survival(ish) story, a precautionary tale, the point of view of all the people that McCandless encountered in his journeys, or an account of how far one's convictions can propell you, you should give it a try.
Aunque debo decir que hubo algunas partes más densas de lo esperado que me hicieron posponer la lectura por un tiempo y el -un tanto- constante recuento de las respuestas de odio hacia la aventura de Chris no fue algo que realmente me agradó, creo que hay algo para todos en este libro. Ya sea si estás buscando una historia de viajes o supervivencia (más o menos), un cuento de precaución, los puntos de vista de todas las personas que McCandless se encontró en sus viajes, o un recuento de qué tan lejos pueden impulsarte tus convicciones, deberías darle una oportunidad.

Overall, I liked Into the Wild. The end actually made me tear up a bit.
En general, me gustó Hacia Rutas Salvajes. El final me hizo llorar un poco.
