Physically, this is a beautiful book, well designed, a pleasure to read. The drawings too are lovely, as are many of the meditations. (My favorite passage is a digression on an old bookstore and the importance of paper in Japanese culture.) There's nothing earth-shattering here, but that's not the point. Japanese Notebooks is a meditation, a remembrance of things past. It's a gem.
