My best read of 2018 so far. Devoured it.
Outstanding page-turner that had me gripped from the start right through until the end.
As a writer, I pick plot twists a mile away which can hamper of my enjoyment of the book but not this one. Yes, I picked one of the major twists but others? Wham! Totally surprised me.
If you enjoy thrillers, you'll love this.
I'll be glomming Jennifer's books.
Read this! You won't be disappointed!
this made me sick and not in a good way lol i definitely do not recommend the audiobook
also terribly predictable so the gore just became gratuitous at some point
TW: Rape, child death
WHAT DID I JUST READ?!
This was a rough read. Full of varying degrees of terrible people. It's still a damn good story though. Hillier won a Thrillerfest award for this and I can see why. I enjoyed how fast paced this was. We went from court room, prison, and release before reaching the 30% mark. I constantly was asking myself, ‘Where can it go from here?'
I think her level of writing is about where I can draw the line with explanations of terrible things human beings can do to one another. I applaud the fact that I am equally disgusted by these characters and so impressed by the way she crafted this story.
I kept on thinking that we already knew the majority of where Geo's guilt came from. THAT REVEAL. FUCKED. ME. UP.
Read for Tarot Readathon 2021: 10 of Wands
While this book was quite slow in the beginning I was always intrigued and I felt like it was purposeful. I could feel the tension building and the end was something else. Literally explosive and it had me so shook. I'm a sucker for an amazingly crafted plot twist that shakes up the whole book, and this book had one of the best I've ever read.
It was fast pace, and interesting. Thrilling and good ending. I enjoyed reading it, but I didn't like the rape scenes.
I had a theory of how things were going to end...... but I was 100% wrong. This was a great read & kept me on my toes!
Short chapters are my fav too

i'd call this book a crime / murder mystery.
i know i just said i guessed the twist and i didn't want to finish it, but alas, i was presently surprised! i wouldn't necessarily call this book a thriller, maybe not until the very end.
i didn't speed through this book, but not because it wasn't gripping i just had a big week
the fact i read this in a day is enough to say i was HOOKED! I really felt attached to the characters and it was sorta nostalgic. I did love the ending and epilogue it's definitely an amazing book and I didnt see the plot twists coming.
edit: 4.5/5
Make it make sense.....I was really enjoying this book until about 75%. This was fast paced and I really looked forward to finding out what happened and who-dun-it. This had some good twists in it, and I breezed through this in 2 days. It held my attention all the way through and it wasn't until the end that I was left with SO MANY QUESTIONS...
I really thought Geo was going to be the killer. But once it was revealed that Geo had given a baby up for adoption and this child would be a teenager by now, it wasn't hard to figure out what was going on. But after everything was revealed, I was left feeling slightly cheated. Dominic ends up being the 2nd serial killer, ok, I get that, but why would he kill his other fathers children and then say that he did it to hurt his mother??? These kids were his half siblings by other mothers. How would this hurt Geo?? Make it make sense? And what are the actual odds that the serial killer father that broke out of prison would actually come back at the exact moment when the son is trying to rape his mother? Calvin is now the hero? What? And when it's revealed that Geo is actually the one that chopped up her best friends body so it could be buried, Calvin is the one vomiting from disgust? I thought he was a total narcissist asshole that got off on controlling Geo? This plot had good bones but quickly fell apart for me at the end.
I still think the Butcher is my favorite one of Jennifer Hillier's so far but this was a wild and crazy thriller.
I got half way thru this book before I remembered I'd read it before! Completed it again and still enjoyed it!
It was good even though I figured out the ending 80% through. It could have been a bit shorter, I felt like I was reading a lot of nonsense after the 50% mark. Overall, it was good, even though the ending made me irrationally angry for several reasons. There was also a lot of liberties taken within the writing, there are several things that happen where, if you think about it too long, you realize how ridiculous it is.

this was insane???? read in one day, i think Jennifer Hillier might be my fav thriller author. this wasnt as good as little secrets, mostly bc it was a bit too ridiculous for me but i still loved the ride.
I've been hearing about this book for a long time now and recently received it for my birthday. I saved it for a magical readathon I'm doing, to use for the prompt: Quick Read. Boy did I call that right LOL
I read this one in less than two days. I started yesterday, stayed up late, and finished today. Whew...what a wild and crazy ride this was. I can see why so many have loved this one. I may just have a new favorite author.
I will say if you have an aversion to rape and children being harmed, this may not be the one for you. This isn't a light thriller, if there even is such a thing. This is dark, heavy and intense, but man the writing is so good and the characters are detailed and realistic. The last few chapters seriously had me out of sorts, and I was stuck like this
