*3.5 this was actually really good although quite predictable and i also hated it so much???? i dont know
3.5...this was better than most in the genre, but I think this type of book just isn't for me anymore. I enjoy a puzzle being solved in a classic mystery or even procedural, but this “troubled family with endless secrets” trope is not my jam.
This was BY FAR his darkest novel yet. I feel so sick after reading this but wow this was quite a saga
3.25
I was enjoying the book until I read that freaking epilogue. It ruined the whole book for me:(
Seriously tho the book felt like a 4-4.25 star read but after that epilogue I had to lower my rating to a 3-3.25 star.
Other than that I really enjoyed how twisted and unhinged these characters were and their motives for everything they did.(whoaa!!)
Def recommend this one! Especially if you are looking for a dark fast paced thriller (with extremely unlikable characters) that you can prob finish within a day or 2. But beware of that epilogue:)
John Marrs does it again! This book was dark, disturbing, twisty, and thrilling.
This book was dark, gritty, twisty-turny and unputdownable! Layers of sharp twists and reveals kept pummelling me and I absolutely loved the dark nature of this story. Following a dark family history of secrets, abductions, murder and violence, this story traces four generations of darkness and the compulsion to kill. This story follows Finn and Mia who end up with a house via auction and begin renovating it when they find out Mia is expecting. However when gristly discoveries are found in the house and a family connection crops up between Finn and the house, a dark tale of revelation and revenge begins to unfold. I am so impressed by this author and can't wait to tap into his back list! Trigger warnings for child abuse and child violence. Also this book sits at the darker end of the thriller spectrum so just be aware.
CHECK TW FOR THIS BOOK!
This was my introduction to John Marrs and it was just ok for me. A bingeable thriller with so-so twists. Nothing that really shocked me. The main focus of the book left me uneasy but I was so curious about the story that I continued reading. The characters were unreliable and not toooo likeable either. I'd try out another John Marrs book, but apprehensively.
