Dr. Alan Gregory's new patient makes the biggest mistake of his life, when he decides to end it. After a near-death epiphany on a dangerous ski slope, the narrator confides to a friend that if he is ever seriously injured or sick, he hopes someone will put him out of his misery. Much to his surprise, the friend intoduces him to the "Death Angels."
