DNF - PG (honestly, not enough to even be doing this but, whatever)
Why?
Partially because I just want to get shut of all the bad free books I got from the YBBB 2022 (Your Book Boyfriend's boyfriend) because this was the last one and almost all I chose were DNF's and generally not what I want to read. This book specifically though...
Very questionable phrasing.
I swung around the corner, slicing up a back avenue that connected to 24th.
As I found by checking the dictionary, ‘slicing' is an appropriate word here, but I can honestly say I have NEVER heard it used in this way before. So, that threw me and left me checking the wording a lot closer than I would otherwise.
Even in the heat while running with a Kevlar vest strapped to my torso, the smell of spiced meat from kabobs smelled so damn good.
Not questioning word choice here, just making note that the correlation makes no sense. (Also, that's the first mention of kabobs', spiced meat or even a place to eat at all in this location.
I tried to weave through behind a cafe, but the street was closed with wet cement, so I backtracked and hooked a right.
What the author likely meant is that the street was closed because of wet cement, but all I could picture was someone sealing off a street using wet cement.
All this might be because I was feeling a little exhausted and my mind wasn't clicking like it usually is, but I have been so disappointed by these free books, that I don't really care anymore.
