Goodness, I'm enjoying this series. I really like the world that Molly Harper has created with Mystic Bayou. In this installation, she tells the story of Zed, the bear shifter mayor who was introduced in the first book. And we're introduced to Dani, a consultant to the League sent to Louisiana to study a mysterious rift.
I really liked Zed. He's laid back, friendly, loyal, protective. He's an alpha male, but not that over protective A-hole kind... one that's definitely more likeable (at least to me). He knows he's found his mate when he meets Dani and he's not afraid to pursue her. And then you have Dani. She's not looking for a relationship as this job is just a means to some money to help her family and she'll then move on. But she's drawn to the relentless Zed and the community she's in.
Throw in the mystery around the town and this magical rift to shake things up a bit. Well, I was drawn in and couldn't stop listening... needing to know what was going to happen next.
The narration by Jonathan Davis and Amanda Ronconi was once again spot on. I enjoyed the accents and voices and found the pacing to be just right. I'm finding that I really enjoy the dual narration as it seems to help bring the stories more to life.
I can't wait to dive into book 3 to see what new characters Molly Harper thinks up and what odd situation in Mystic Bayou to throw them into. Well done!
