John Jakes sure must be a boob guy because every woman in this book has tig ‘o' bitties and know how to use them. That being said he did a wayyyy better job with this book than the first one by more accurately portraying both sides point of views versus just bashing southerners. He also stepped back a bit from the soap opera drama and made it seem more realistic. He focuses more on romance and the tribulations of war on soldiers and civilians. He talks about people's mental health going through depression and physical health by amputations from bullets or swords, and very graphic deaths.
