Contains the most adorable, “and then I chopped off his ass so that I could eat it later” conversion that I've, personally, ever read
Disappointing end
I loved this trilogy. Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed by the end? I feel that the last 25% was rushed as an effort to tie up lose ends. While everything was resolved, I didn't think it was done artfully. Bummed that an awesome series and individual book had to end like this.
This was alright, I kind of felt like the ending was rushed. It was an ending I was expecting, at least.
The first 2 books in this series were difficult to follow, with frequent changes of narrator and jumping back and forth in time. This book was easier for me to follow. At times, it seemed like the author was capitalizing on all the character background information she had developed in order to write the first 2 books. This book did a good job of filling in details that were missing from the earlier books, and revealed the end of the story.
I read Oryx and Crake very soon after it first came out, and didn't finish Maddaddam until now, so this has been a long time coming. But, I've finally read the whole series, and it's a good one. The three books are very different from each other, but I really like them.
Good book, and a great idea to include a recap of the previous books: it's more than ten years from Oryx and Crake, after all. I had no memory of what goes in that book, and not a good recollection of The Year of the Flood either.
With the recap, I was able to understand what's going on in this one. As usual, a well-written and captivating story, with interesting dystopian views.
Small mercies that Atwood cut out the “why?” “why?” “why?” between every line whenever anyone's telling the Crakers anything, but my point stands: if I wanted to listen to a toddler, I'd go find me one.
Plus, all the badass characters from Year of the Flood are basically not present in this book. I mean, the people are there, but all personality has been wiped. What a disappointment!
Plus, I just can't with child abuse.
