A poor man's [b:The Secret History 29044 The Secret History Donna Tartt https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1451554846s/29044.jpg 221359] or [b:La Vérité sur l'affaire Harry Quebert 16033842 La Vérité sur l'affaire Harry Quebert Joël Dicker https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347987605s/16033842.jpg 21805083]? It certainly checks many similar boxes: it's very much about writers and writing, and there's some murder mystery to it as well. Zackarias Levin is laid off from his work, and decides to make money by writing a novel about a murder case he was involved in 12 years ago. Famous author Leo Stark disappeared, and Zack's friend was found guilty. All the people involved were participating in a creative writing course at the time. The novel has two storylines: one in present day, the other the novel Zack is writing, about what happened. It's all about truth: what is the truth, and is it more important to tell a good story than to tell the truth?
