I like the cover on this one. It's simple but eye-catching. Has good composition and title work.
I really enjoyed this one. One of the things I love about this author is just how very British her books sound. Now I know what you are thinking “Duh Eve that is because she IS British” and I know that, but there just seems to be something a little extra with this author. I can literally hear the accents as I read.
Ok, now that I am done blathering like an idiot about accents I will move on to the actual review. As always this author's writing remains top notch. Be it under her romance name (Lucy Wild) or this new pen name I know I am guaranteed to get a well written story. The pace of this one was fairly good. It did take me a bit to get into it, but once it hit its stride, I found myself unable to set it aside. I wouldn't say there were a lot of twists and turns. We know right from the start who the baddie is, but the author did a good job of keeping things interesting despite that.
There is a touch of romance that as a romance reader I felt could have been fleshed out more. That said this isn't a romance book, so I wasn't too bothered by it either. The characters were plenty, and all of them added extra layers that enhanced the overall plot well. The only thing I didn't love was the ending. I felt it was wrapped up maybe a tad too quickly and easily after all that build up. But even with that issue I still ended up enjoying this one, and it's getting a thumbs up from yours truly.
