This is a fun fantasy adventure with a hefty dose of political intrigue and a good amount of romance. I still have a bit of trouble keeping all the Houses and factions straight in my head, however.
DNF at PG 112
I was enjoying the story enough that I did something I probably never should have. I looked at the second book of the series. (Mostly because I was curious if we kept the same narrators.) After hearing what it's about, I knew that I would never read that book. It also destroyed my interest in this book. It's now been over a month since I last picked this book up and I have zero interest in finishing it. Knowing that I won't continue the story, I might as well just stop before I actually get attached to the people and HAVE to know what happens next.
I do like the writing style, and would love to give Shinn another shot - but I think I'll do a bit more research on all the books in the series before deciding what of hers I'll try next. And it'll probably be a while before I even get there.
