This book is a good late night before you go to bed/airplane read. Enough of all the bits for a kind-of-cop-book - not too deep but enough weird intersections of people with the main character being a scientist/psychic, go figure. No Pulitzer but it does mention Confederacy of Dunces.
An engrossing mystery wrapped around a fascinating central character in Vivvy Boucher, a 28-year-old astrophysicist but also a possible psychic who works together with a childhood friend, now policeman, on the case of 3-year-old who went missing and her incarcerated mother. The writer did a great job of featuring several likely suspects and keeping secrets under wraps so I was ever quite sure where the plot was going. An added subplot involving a conspiracy theorist was not my cup of tea but it did add to the tension as Vivvy was suddenly thrust into a media spotlight she did not want or anticipate. All around, a great addition to Heaberlin's continuing output of outstanding work.
It has been a while since I have really enjoyed an audiobook this much. Both the story, and the narrator, had my attention. I usually have trouble staying engaged with audio, but not with this one.
The energy between Vivi and Sharpe was perfect, I think anyway. Neither overtook the other and instead complimented each other well. The story was captivating and I found myself having a hard time stopping. This is definitely a good one for mystery lovers who also like a little romance.
I can't remember where I entered to win this, but I'm glad I did. I sincerely appreciate MacMillan Audio for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
