On the strength of the writing alone, I give this novel 5 stars. The story is a little less bizarre (I mean once you get past the fact that the children spontaneously combust) than I'm accustomed to from Kevin Wilson (The Family Fang was brilliant), somewhat predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. I've read some suggestions that the “fiery” nature of the children is a metaphor for childish tempers, but that's not it. These kids combust because their parents suck. In reality, it's the parents who start the fires, not the kids. In any case, it was fun to spend some time in Kevin Wilson's world again.
