Occupation Adventure is a short autobiography covering the setting up of the authors company, some of it's projects and some thoughts on what might be coming up. Published in 1961 it covers the inception of Adventure Inc as an expert underwater photography company. Thorne is the only real character, although he works with a team of people carrying out specialist diving activities mostly involving filming, but as he carries out most of the action himself (shark investigations, research, filming of underwater movie sequences, filming the testing of underwater (and under-ice) scientific equipment being developed, including explosive devices) he is the star.
He shares his activities in putting on shows, a film or two, exploration a trip to Antarctica to carry out trials of equipment (via New Zealand where he did some training exercises with the NZ air force) as well as in warmer climes.
It is a quick, fun read. I wonder what became of him, and the ‘Aquatherm' - the project for which he was to be paid in company shares rather than cash! This was a circulation device lowered into water to prevent ice forming above, or to melt ice if dropped down a hole.
3 brief stars.
