I'm not sure how I feel about Stephanie's character yet. She's a little all over the place, and I'm not sure if she's the most believable in how she reacts to everything. She annoyed me multiple times throughout reading. But the overall plot was entertaining and the scenes with Morelli were always fun so I'll probably try the next book and see if she grows on me.
Cute, light book. Clever plot. However I did not like the main character at all. Not sure how many times you can catch a guy and not take him in. If she was someone I was around in real life I'd want to shake her til she came to her senses.
I enjoyed this book. Stephanie is a feisty non-heroine. Why have I not read these books before? I don't know who is playing her in the movie but I picture someone like Ann Hathaway or Sandra Bullock. The characters are really well fleshed out and enjoyable. I especially love the fact that Stephanie had no eyebrows for the last half of the book. So Funny. I want her and Morelli to hook up but that might ruin the chemistry between them. I did figure out that Alpha did it about 2/3rds the way in or at least suspected it. .
This really did feel almost like a prologue? An intro to Stephanie Plum. I'll be reading the second one to see if I can give it a try.
Stephanie Plum is a down-on-her-luck Jersey girl who decides that becoming a bounty hunter is preferable to getting evicted. And she decides to learn how to bounty hunt by going after the top prize first - a cop on the lam who's been accused of murder.
This was a lot of fun to read! Quickly paced, with a lot of humour, and Stephanie's a nice, refreshing break from the world-weary, misanthropic sort of characters I usually encounter when reading this type of book.
The one thing I didn't like about the book was Joe Morelli, the cop that Stephanie is hunting down/falling in love with. And when I say “didn't like”, I mean I wanted a piano dropped on his smarmy, good-looking head.
First of all: I know a lot of my friends & fam LOVE these books and I'm so happy you enjoy them, truly!
Second of all: whoa, this was really weird and way more graphically violent and racist than I was expecting!? I thought I was in for some light chick flick-y crime fun and I got naked prostitutes beaten and tied to balconies?!

Perfect holiday fodder to zip through, bordering on guilty pleasure. Picked it up on the strength of the upcoming movie and Janet Evanovich's near ubiquitous presence on store bookshelves. Perfectly fun read!
I struggled with this one until about 2/3 of the way thru. Then I thought it got funny. Not thrilled with her having to be rescued every third page - but am trying to chalk it up to it being written in the early 90's - which doesn't make the premise any less gag-worthy, but it allowed me to move on. The guy who does the gender reversal review on this one on this site sums it up nicely. I'll try the second one in the series before I give up on it.
I read this one for the PopSugar 2015 challenge. It was as close as reading a book that takes place in my hometown as I could get (Trenton being not that far from here). I know people love these books, and I know it's dated. That said, something about Stephanie Plum reminded me of Sookie Stackhouse (perhaps it was the constant mentioning of showering and all of bike shorts). I'm not a mystery or crime reader, so I cannot fairly judge it. I'm going to go with I've read worse. I have no interest in reading more of the series.
The title of Janet Evanovich's novel, “One For The Money” is pretty self explanatory. The book is about a woman named Stephanie Plum who becomes a bounty hunter to make some quick cash. The book follows Stephanie as she tries to apprehend fugitives and deals with the comical everyday obstacles that she faces.
One For The Money is the first book in Janet Evanovich's long-running Stephanie Plum series. The series is known for being funny and fast-paced, and this first book does not disappoint. Stephanie is a lovable protagonist who the reader can't help but root for, even when she's making mistakes. The book is full of humor, both in the situations Stephanie finds herself in and in the dialogue.
If you're looking for a light-hearted and fun read, then I would highly recommend Janet Evanovich's One For The Money.
