"Enjoyable and insightful work was written as a tribute to the scientific achievements of Richard Evans Schultes, an Amazonia explorer active during 1940s-50s. Also relates explorations of the author and of Timothy Plowman, both Schultes' students. Intended for a popular audience"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.

Epic story of the travels of ethobotanist Richard Schultes by one of his former students, Wade Davis. Schultes' travels began in 1941 and were long-term journeys. Davis is a fabulous writer who, himself, recreated some of Schultes' trips as well as forging his own journeys. He brings us to the Amazon with them as he recounts the journeys and discoveries and love of the people and the place.
