Pet names really give me the ick. But the story was very unexpected with solid twists and lots of intense spice. I really didn't like the mental illness rep in this. It was an unnecessary element and the behavior that resulted from it could have happened for other reasons. There is already so much stigma around mental illness, authors really need to not weaponize it when there can be other ways to achieve your character arcs. Be sure to check the content warnings before you dive into this.

OH MY GOD. This may be my favorite book of the year. I was not expecting that. This book was absolutely incredible, I could not get enough of it. I may just have a book hangover from this. I don't know how anything else I'll read this year will compare to this. I really enjoyed working kind of backwards if that makes sense to get to what happened. I was not expecting any of it, I had my hunches but they were blown away and completely wrong. I've never been so wrong before and I love that I wasn't able to figure out the plot twists in this book.
This has been in my TBR for so long based on the synopsis and reviews. I finally got my hands on it and I'm left baffled.
Perhaps it's my own fault for my expectation, because I had read another book by this author (perfect strangers) and was equally baffled. The twists and ending left me so weird and angry and annoyed. Just the same with this.
I expected the dark romance but got a dark erotic thriller. Which is fine I just wasn't expecting it.
The sex between Kayla and Aiden was hot, I'll give them that. But the twists and turns at the end kind of ruined the whole thing for me. I ended up being annoyed by it so 3 stars is as generous as I can be.
It's been years and the blurb and genres are still misleading. This is erotica veering into BDSM like spanking, anal, power play, and primal/animal play. This isn't dark romance. There's almost no romance at all actually until the last 10% of the book. None of the characters are really obsessive/possessive or even morally grey. Trauma and violence doesn't automatically mean dark romance. If you're looking for that from the title and the blurb it's not here. Instead we get a paranormal mystery thriller plot to get us from one sex scene to the next. It's really unfortunate that this wasn't a romance to keep me more invested. I was never really hit with any big emotional impact. I had the mystery figured out 45% of the way in. The twist is revealed at about 88% which is also when the more romantic stuff starts up but there's barely a love story to get choked up over. If this had been tackled differently I probably would have cried over these characters. Instead I mostly watched them have somewhat rough sex while calling each other bunny, lion, sir, and master a few too many times. This isn't a bad read, it just wasn't genre melded together, presented, or sold the right way for me.
what the hell was that??????
Definitely not romance and definitely not what I was expecting. I loved it
I can't get past the dialogue between these two, the banter was awesome cause it's J.T Geissinger obviously but bunny/rabbit and every other smutty dialogue made me want to cringe into a little ball and die
The story though was 10/10. And the reveal with Fiona and Claire? I haven't been this excited about a plot twist in a while
Big fan of this book mainly for the vibes but also for the fact that I would've never seen this coming
