While this book did not have a rhythm like the picture books did, the same loving character and illustrations are here. This book is filled with value. There is so much optimism teaching to the reader through Pete's experiences in playing baseball with his team. It is all about fun and just trying your best. This is a great one for any young reader and child. Definitely inspiring. [b:Pete the Cat: Play Ball! 15818184 Play Ball! That and it's just fun and funny. I worked through reading this one with my 3.5 year old last night and it was an interesting experience. She knows her letters and sounds, but it not quite ready to blend yet on her own, however this kiddo loves reading. Pete's Big Lunch builds and builds and the pictures are great cues that she was often able to guess what would be said, by taking a first letter sound and the image. It's not quite reading, but it's a fun start for her none the less. This is another one that would be great for discussing sequencing exercises. Pete the Cat: At the Beach This is awesome for a summer read for a family at or maybe headed to the beach. Watching Pete deal with his fear is perfect for the age of newness and uncertainty in a preschooler. Then of course the story is told in simple sentences very appropriate for the beginning reader.
