The characters are smart, with properly English Dry humor, and even when they're falling in love they remain themselves. I love how the author portrays them warts and all. The Merton siblings have a permanent place in my heart. Bill and Pat are people you want in your corner when the house is on fire. Jimmy is all heart which sometimes lead him to serious blunders, but I kept rooting for him and Bill, I hope to read about them in further books, however my absolute favorite was Fen. She's an absolute gem and Pat didn't stand a chance in her presence. Surrendering with grace was her only option.
