Queen Takes Knights

Pretty solid start to a series.

I enjoyed this book SO MUCH MORE than I thought I would.

This isn't my normal style of book, I'll admit. I really just picked it up because I wanted a short vampire read and the premise sounded interesting. Erotica-focused books are a real hit or miss for me and I'm more on the picky side than not, but this one was definitely a hit.

I just love the world-building on this one. The inner workings of vampires in this story are SO interesting and unlike any other vampire book I've read. The concept of a “Queen” being more like a queen bee, with Blood as her workers and defenders, was so much more interesting than the run-of-the-mill monarchy deal that most books do when they talk about queens, though there are elements in this book of that as well. The concept of nests is really cool as well, and another element I feel like I've never really seen in most vampire books. There's something so much more...animal, about this type of vampire. In modern settings especially it feels like we're stuck in this groove of vampires being super-rich socialites which, while fun, gets repetitive after a time. In this book they feel less like they're trying to act human, which is a refreshing take.

I'm excited to get more into the politics with the Triune and such in the sequels, and I absolutely ADORE Aldrik and Daire, and even though this is a why-choose and I know there's going to be more Blood getting involved I feel like these two will always have a special place in my heart. The way they were just immediately devoted and obedient towards her is something you don't see often in vampire fiction, where the norm is more towards the male leads being dominant and commanding, which turns me off of them more often than not. This was a fresh take that I really enjoyed, and it sucked me in almost instantly.

I can't wait to see where the rest of this story goes!

This was a short quick read that I actually enjoyed. Shara is an ordinary human (or so she thinks) and she's been running for her life ever since her mother was killed. In the beginning Shara has finally been cornered by the monsters and it ready to end her life when 2 men come to her rescue and tell her all about her history. Really the only complaint I have about this is how easily Shara took the news of who/what she was. She didn't put up any resistance at all. There is a lot of blood and sex so if that's not your thing you should definitely skip this one. Overall, I enjoyed reading this and definitely want to continue on in the series. 

WOW, how come no one warned me this wasn't completed?! I feel so lied to!

In all seriousness, I really loved these books. Maybe a bit too much adoration instead of just thinking or progressing plot, but sometimes these kinda of books are fun to read about.... even if there is a TON of blood all over the place.
