As the fever becomes stronger, Kai and Rayna make their way towards Katori. They must complete their Conhaspringa soon or lose their gifts... permanently. What is supposed to be an adventurous, yet test of strength journey, turns into an almost deadly one as the Katori Guardians do their best to sabotage and prevent its completion. They are afraid of Kai...
As Kai learns to navigate Katori culture while learning their history he finally feels like he's found his home. He's also struggling with his need to find his mother, the realization of who is father is and what that means, and the distrust of his grandfather and what his plans really are. Will he find his mother in time? Will Keegan bring war and destruction? How can he prevent the devastation he feels is coming?
This is the 3rd book in the Katori Chronicles. I am thoroughly enjoying this MG/YA Fantasy Series. There are so many good lessons hidden amongst the words and the writing is well done and keeps the attention. So far, this is my favorite book of the series.
We get to see tremendous growth with Kai and Rayna both as they learn more of who they truly are and grapple with what that means. Their lives are changing and their future unknown. How they deal with the obstacles in their growth is inspiring.
I also love that we get to see more of Rayna's journey. She may have her fate wrapped with Kai's but she is her own person and finally beginning to realize she is strong on her own. She and Kai have a shared respect and support of each other. That's such a great relationship for young ones to see.
