Supernova Soul is the flipside of Like The First Moon Landing. A darker, scarier, and mind-tripping flipside is probably what I should say. Whew! I read it one sitting. Matthew J. Metzger had me hooked at the ending of Moon for this book and did not let me down.
Supernova is told from the viewpoint of Hélène, Maggie's ex-wife from Moon. Along with Hélène, we have members from the escape pods. Metzger has compiled an interesting assortment of survivors. Do not get attached because Metzger also provides many dangers in this alien place. In your face blood splattering dangers may happen abruptly. (“Warning Will Robinson!”)
Then there is the deep physiological trauma of being abandoned in space, confined to tight quarters, watching people die, and almost dying yourself that has an effect on our characters. Metzger takes us down a deep hole. Where Hélène not only has to face the horror of the present, but deal with a past she does not want to look at or relive. Metzger says, “Too bad.”
Supernova Soul is deep, dark, full of action, and fabulous. The ending was a little tame for me as Metzger has us on a string for the entire book (laugh). I don't think I was ready for the thrill ride to end and you won't be either. I'm ready for Hélène and ... ‘s next adventure. (You did not think I was going to give that away did you?!)
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
