Marley is back home with her tail between her legs, she doesn't know what she wants to do in life and is looking to leave her small town as soon as possible. She takes a temporary teaching job and agrees to coach the soccer team. Jake is the perfect teacher, he is great with kids and knows how to talk to parents. He is the perfect person to fake date while Marley tries to repair her image with the school. Too bad those sneaky feelings start taking over.
This book is funny and since the adults are older, it makes them more relatable. It is one of my go to recommendations for others.
I liked this book while I was reading it, but I'm so annoyed with the main character and main plot. Marley was written as being effortlessly pretty, kind, and funny, and landed the two hottest guys in highschool, but still thinks she was a loser during her time there? The self sabotage was frustrating. Her parents were amazing, her friends were amazing, and the build up to the “terrible” thing she did at homecoming was not creative. It just led back to her being a hero and everyone thinking she was great. I think if this book was reworked with an actual dilemma, I would have been all for it. Or even if there wasn't the drama of the build up to the lackluster homecoming story, it wouldn't have bothered me as much. I loved Jake, but he was perfect. How could I not? The side situations were great. I loved the soccer team, Vicky, Andrea, even Amie Jo. This is still a 4 star romance for me, but I wanted so much more after finishing.
I don't have words for this book. I took it up on a recommendation from some website for soccer related romances and I was skeptical but oh my god. I loved it. I laughed, I swooned, I groaned in frustration at the 3rd act. This book was exactly what I needed and scratched a very specific itch for me. Jake Weston... swoon... He makes me want my own small town bad boy.
