This is perfect! I loved this comic. The characters were flawless, the plot was so much fun. The PTA parents are actually supervillians plot was epic. I love how they all talked half the time in super villian language and then mixed in middle class american parent conversation topics. So much fun.
I think that every teenager, at some point, entertains the notion that their parents might be evil. But what if they really were? That's the central concept of Runaways, one of the most successful new graphic novel ideas from Marvel in recent years.
The first volume focuses mainly on the Runaways learning about their parents' supervillian status, their running away from them, and their slow realization of their own super abilities. It's well paced, the characters seem fresh and unique, it's fun, all-ages superhero stuff.
I originally encountered the Runaways much later on, so there was a bit of mental confusion encountering the group in what turns out to be a prequel (for me.) I like how Alex is the least powered but most leader-ish.
ahh I'm not totally here for all the Civil War stuff but the Runaways/Young Avengers Civil War was relatively enjoyable, as far as all that goes. Not totally here for all the Secret Invasion stuff either, tbh, but still, happy to have more of the Runaways doing whatever. I loved the time travel story!
anyway, a lot going on here, but overall I'm just happy for more of the characters I love <3
