this is definitely the darkest “romance” i've ever read. this is actually an erotica reverse harem but y'all understand what i mean. this book was literally something and it was done so well. 10/10 recommend for around halloween if the triggers don't bother you
A novella featuring Sibby and her backstory, leading up to the events of Haunting Adeline.
I didn't enjoy Sibby's story as much. It was kinda weird, knowing what I knew from the duo.
The only thing I got was closure, with the reveal of her official diagnosis.
3.5 stars
I loved... well.. maybe not loved but you know what I mean... Sibby is actually my favorite character in the Cat and Mouse duet so it was enlightening to get her backstory in Satan's Affair. Also her “meet-cute” with Zade is the best.
That said, I didn't enjoy the writing style compared to the main books. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition in sentences and the wording felt disjointed at times.
Reading this also let with with a lot more questions that I don't think we'll ever get answers to. Like who the hell is Kraven or better yet, who does Sibby think he is???
Crossing my fingers for another novella at least because I enjoy this series and need to know if Sibby is okay, please and thank you
Really didn't see that ending coming. Absolutely loved this one the whole way throughout. Impeccable.
I wanted to like this more because I loved Sibby in Haunting/Hunting Adeline. However, I do wish we had gotten more of her backstory and her victories over evil because it felt more like just reading strictly porn (some of the scenarios did not feel possible given the henchmen's quantity and physical descriptions). I love HD Carlton and will read literally anything she writes, but this one just happens to be my least favorite.
I really think this should be read after the duet or at least after Haunting Adeline unless you're fully into this genre. I know I wouldn't have liked it if i hadn't read the duet first. But now I wanna know what happened after Hunting Adeline
This book had me with my jaw on the floor the entire time. I read the Cat & Mouse duet before reading this one and I was so confused about the henchmen, H.D. Carlton did well, even had me doubting everything I read in Hunting Adeline. As unhinged as Sibby was, I did feel really bad for her at the end.
This novella was insane. I'm not a huge horror reader, so it took a bit to get into the right headspace. I'm glad I read this before starting Haunting Adeline, though. Sibby is nuts, but in the best way. I can't wait to see Zade's perspective of her when she shows up in HA. The ending literally made me put my kindle down for a minute and just think. Then go back and reread passages. Books almost never make me do that. I didn't expect that ending AT ALL.
I enjoyed the Cat and Mouse duet so I expected to like this book as well. Unfortunately, this missed the mark.
If you've read the Cat and Mouse series, you know you have to suspend disbelief for this book. (Ex. She's never been in a car or any form of transportation... So you're telling me she walks to every new fair location?)
Plus, some things, like the house layout, are over explained and took me out of the story.
I'm excited to read other releases by H.D. Carlton but this book just wasn't for me.
