Man, this was very interesting! I liked it a lot! Wow this was kinda deep for a MG read, is it YA too? The main character Jonathan (not to be confused with John, lol) is sent into this awful island school for delinquent boys. He has a horrible secret that keeps haunting him (I kinda guessed earlier on but still) and I'd say his PTSD and grief and guilt is soo real and very nicely handled. I liked his friendship with Colin and how even though Sebastian was being shi#*y he still didn't hate him and be mad at him. I liked his character and the ending... wow! I gotta say it was a light fast read! I read this for a Book Club and I'm glad I did, I'm impressed by how it sounds as a sort of classic and stuff. Also the books mentioned about islands and seas
I liked this one. It's a little like lord of the flies but not so dark. I like the characters and the setting is very haunting.
Holy smokes! What a page turner! I couldn't put this down. I think the comparisons to Lord of the Flies are off the mark a bit. I would, instead, say it has a Lemony Snicket feel. What is DOES have is an incredible amount of action, great pacing, and a likeable main character. Well done. This would be a great group read if you had older kids.
