I was sent a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. All opinions are my own
I love love lovedd this book! I'm in my own 12-step program and boy it was cool to see the progression of someone as she got - and maintained - her sobriety utilizing the tools of a 12-step program. This book is so raw and the author is so incredibly vulnerable. It drew me in and kept my attention throughout. Roxie had to hit an emotional bottom before accepting complete defeat. I too, hit an emotional bottom before surrendering to my alcoholism. I also love how recovery is explained as mourning the loss of your old self as it “passes” and then discovering your new self. As Roxie continues with her sobriety, she is on a journey of self-love and self-discovery. It's quite admirable and the change you see in her from the beginning to end is just remarkable. I also must say I love Alice!! She sounds like a kick ass sponsor and definitely a positive role model for Roxie. Overall, I give this 5 stars! The first of the year ⭐️
From the title you think you know what this is about...yes, for the most part it is, BUT it's also so much beyond that.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this one. As I read, I felt recognition and surprise. I have in no way gone through what this author has, but there is a lot here I can relate to. Seeking validation and love through relationships was something I struggled a lot with. Low self-esteem and low value. I did not love myself.
Eventually I pulled myself up, made changes, and became whole. I would have loved some support through all that but am just glad I survived. This book..man..there is so much here to digest. So much people can use and intertwine into their daily lives.
This author is honest, straight-forward, and REAL. She lays open her vulnerabilities in the hopes that someone can benefit from it. I think most of us can.
“My goal in sharing this journey is that maybe someone else can find a little hope and realize that they're not broken or alone.”
Highly recommend this one. I understand she will be writing a second book, and I'm so there for it.
