When a string of racially motivated lynchings threatens to tear the country apart, two orators sweep into Washington and demand that the constitution be modified to allow for a law that will end the widespread violence. Racial and religious speech that undermines others' beliefs must be classified as hate speech and must be severely punished. Some say roll with the punches. Drift with the tide. Nothing can stop the inevitability of change. There was a time when 300 Spartans disagreed with such mindless thinking and stood in the gap. Now it's time for 3,000 to stand in the gap. Sinner is the story of Marsuvees Black, a force of raw evil who speaks with wicked persuasion that is far more destrictive than swords or guns. Beware all who stand in his way. It's also the story of Billy Rediger and Darcy Lange, two unsuspecting survivors of a research project gone bad, who discover that they are perhaps the two most powerful souls in the land. Listen to them or pay a terrible price. And it's the story of Johnny Drake, the one who comes out of the desert and leads the 3,000. Follow him and die. Sinner tells the story of a free land where people who worship as they please and say what they believe are suddenly silenced in the name of tolerance. - Publisher.

I got hooked on this trilogy last fall, and was so excited for the final installment that I preordered it to be delivered to my kindle on release day. :) It did not disappoint. The characters all found their paths in a way that made sense to me, without being overly cheesy or implausible. The story of St. John and the community there made me reminisce about a small community I used to live in outside of Boston, and the challenges but also the benefits of such. The author also ties up the series with the devastation that the island endured from a hurricane, but also with hope from a community that is ever resilient. This trilogy is a quick read, and I highly recommend it. You will enjoy it more and get more from it by reading all three of the books in order. It provided a respite from all things political and Covid for a few days. It was also interesting to note that the author quarantined in St. John this spring during the Covid shut-downs.
