Step by Step

For me, I could hardly put this story down. The emotions Taylor experienced were so spot-on to having lost a close loved one unexpectedly, and to facing the loss of a beloved dog to cancer. I'd been rooting for Taylor and Seth in book one, and I'd have been upset not to see those early sparks come to fruition. Here they are in their new town, having to face what the future looks like without their first spouses. Seth is a bit further down the process of grief than Taylor is, and now her heart is being ripped out again by the loss of her dog. I lost my beloved dog to cancer in a terribly similar way...the seizures once it hit his brain, the miraculous “recovery” brought on by cortisone shots, the final agonizing decisions of how long is too long for the dog, the agony of a goodbye that drags itself out in physical pain to the dog, which yet is clinging to life with a game spirit.

I loved the romance. Nothing touchy-feely or overly sensual, but plenty of sparks and attraction and chemistry. Just the way I like it.

I'm definitely sold on Calvert's books!
