As I've said in other reviews, I'm not particularly fond of D&D fantasy novels that focuses on dwarves. Still, I read them all the same to complete the series. This book can be summarised in one word: predictable. The story is about a lost dwarven artifact that was lost and found. Two groups are looking to retrieve it: the stereotypical good guys and the stereotypical bad guys. The intrigue is mostly political but somewhat simplistic. There are several plot twists and quite a bit of action, but I don't find them particularly refreshing or exciting because you can somehow guess what's going to happen next. The book also had a slow and poor start, but if you're not expecting much out of this in the first place, it's still good enough for some casual reading of a fantasy story.
