This is an NZ Department of Conservation book which seeks to summarise facts, and provide photographs of the New Zealand Subantarctic Islands of the Snares, Bounty, Antipodes, Auckland and Campbell Islands.
It covers some basic overall summary introduction, then for each island group covers the flora, the fauna, and information on any specific animal or feature of the group. It then has sections on conservation efforts, scientific frontiers, the human history (sealers, whalers, penguining etc, attempted settlers, shipwreck survivors, farming endeavours etc), and a little about the impact fee to visit.
It contains very good photography of the landscapes and of the penguins and sea and land birds, animals (Hookers sea lions and, sea elephants, fur seals) and the historical photos. It also has some detailed maps.
As a background text, this is a great summary book.
