This seems like an outtake from a novel rather than a short story—could be a section discarded because it didn't advance the plot.If you already read and liked [b:In the Courts of the Crimson Kings 1723945 In the Courts of the Crimson Kings (Lords of Creation, #2) S.M. Stirling https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1312049912l/1723945.SY75.jpg 1721343], here you can get a further taste of the world of that book, and a little more of the lives of two characters from it: Sally and Teyud. It's set in the time period preceding the novel, so this is a prequel. The plot is inconsequential, and serves only to give an excuse for a couple of combat scenes. The extra background details of daily life on Mars are mildly entertaining if you like that kind of thing.
