“Lilly Corbett Still has grown to love her life as the small-town doctor of Skip Rock, a tiny coal community in the Kentucky mountains. Though her husband, Tern, is away for a few months at a mining job, Lilly has her hands full with her patients and her younger sister visiting for the summer.
Lilly turns to her good friend and neighbor, Armina, to help keep things in order–until a mysterious chain of events leaves Armina bedridden and an abandoned baby on her doorstep. Lilly works to uncover the truth, unaware of what a mess she's found herself in until a break-in at her clinic puts her on high-alert. As she struggles between what is right and what is safe, Lilly must discover the strength of her resilient country neighbors, her God, and herself.”
Such a good book to add to the shelf! I thoroughly enjoyed the action and mystery in this book, as well as Lilly's personality. She was such a good doctor and an even better big sister to her wild little sister, Mazy. Lilly's faith in God was also very inspiring. When the supposed father of an abandoned baby abducts her and little Timmy, she is fighting hard to love and forgive this man, just as Jesus would do.
Armina was a good character, but I honestly did not like her. I don't mean that she should have been left out of the book, quite the contrary, but I would not like to meet her if she were to be human. She was very grouchy, and picky about everything, and never wanting help with anything. But, she had a good heart, and was very caring towards her husband, the baby, and Lilly.
I loved how the story ended! How the father sent things as an apology to Lilly and Timmy for the abduction, the money and permission slip to take care of his little Betsey Lane, and how he became a Christian (it doesn't actually say, but I am assuming because of his actions and the conversation he had with Lilly).
This was a very good read, and I encourage you to read it as well!
