Lord Rahl, Kahlen, the Mord-Sith, the D'Haran Empire, and everyone allied with them continue to fight the Imperial Order. By using the sliph, a creature created by magic by wizards of 3000 years ago, Richard and Kahlen are able to travel great distances from the Wizards Keep, going through a series of deep wells. A terrible plague is released by a Sister of the Dark, who stole the Night Stone from the Temple of the Winds, and the evil wizard who traveled with her. The wizard is killed, but the Sister escapes, spreading the plague to other places in the Midlands. The only hope is to find the Temple and return what was taken, before the only ones who can accomplish the task are overtaken by the plague or killed by Jagang's minions.

This 4th installment in the SOT series is just as entertaining and exciting as the previous books (which you must read first), but enjoy it while you can. The series begins to decline after book 5. Unfortunately, you're so involved with these characters by that point that you feel that you must see the series to its conclusion. I, however, was not able to finish the series.

If you are already reading the series, keep on coming. Goodkind keeps up the drama with Richard, Kahlan, and all that is terrible with the world. This book was a little more graphic than the first three. The plot and characters remain interesting. Some new ideas surface that create opportunities and expand the world. My only frustration is with extensive exposition in dialogue...which at times did not feel like dialogue.
Terry Goodkind is a pervert! It didn't stop me from enjoying this book though. But he is one sick puppy. LOL!
