I was warned about Tristan Cole.
“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”
It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.
But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.
We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.
Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

I just finished The Air He Breathes by Brittainy Cherry and here are my thoughts.
Sometimes running away is the best thing to do, but returning to your life... Might just be the hardest thing to do.
When Elizabeth's husband dies in a car accident, Elizabeth takes her daughter and runs to her mothers house. After a while, she knows she has to go home to her life but when she arrives back in town, she ends up hitting a dog with her car. The dog's owner... The world's biggest jerk. Glad to be rid of him once she finds his dog is ok, she is mortified to learn he bought the house next door.
Trying to avoid each other doesn't pan out so well and they find themselves becoming unlikely friends. Both trying to make it through the day after all the losses they have both gone through, they both extended a hand out to the only person that can truly understand their heartbreak.
GAWDDDDDD. I might well have cried... once... Twice.. OK A LOT! We get this story from Elizabeth's POV and Tristan's. Elizabeth lost her husband in a car accident and Tristan lost his wife and son which is bad enough but he has seemingly cut his parents out of his life too. He is completely alone. Haunted, broken and angry. He is keeping everyone away from him and it's working. People avoid him like the plague.
Elizabeth is adrift. She's angry that Stephen is dead and he has left her. The pain blinds her but Tristan sees her and her pain and the two help each other in the small things they do for each other. The thing with the feathers... My heart! Elizabeth had an anchor to keep her more grounded and Tristan had no one but Elizabeth became that for him.
The twist at the end was a little much and I don't think it needed that to be an amazing read so I was a little disappointed that it wrapped up this way but I'm sure I am in the minority here. I felt it didn't quite fit the tone of the book but it was definitely the twist of all twists.
I did enjoy all the characters though and there are some pretty hilarious moments in the book. It was quite the read and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a contemporary romance.
