Straczynski' run as writer on The Amazing Spider-Man ranged from some of the best to most ridiculous stories of the modern era. This story arc, Coming Home, is one of the best.
Peter Parker return to his roots having lost the love of his life, MJ, and takes a teaching position in his old high school. The world is a tougher place, nastier, rougher. And lurking out there is a formidable foe, as well as someone who appears to have the same powers as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man....
This is a different take on old Webhead, striving to put him in a bigger, mythical setting. It's an intriguing take on the character and the story pushes Spidey to the limits before ending on a massive cliff-hanger.
Brilliant stuff.
