"The second edition of this Very Short Introduction focuses on the challenges facing American presidents in meeting the high expectations of the position in a separation of powers system. This masterly revision explores critical issues that are object of contemporary debate and shows how the American presidency evolved over the past 200 years and where it may go in the future"--

Short Review: This is the 10th book from the Very Short Introduction series. And while several of them have been quite bad, more have been helpful than not. This is one of the better ones. It is a quick introduction to the office of president, its history and change over time and the limitations of the office, both those that are constitutional and the real limitations based on the size of the government and political realities.
I picked up the American Constitution: A biography when I finished and have been enjoying the fuller treatment of the subject. (On sale as I am posting for $1.99 - http://amzn.to/2qSDwFY )
The Very short introduction series is all lendable on kindle. So if you want to borrow this one or one of the others ones that I have read let me know.
