OMG THIS BOOK IS AMAZING AND I AM OBSESSED!!!!! I never expected this book I randomly found in a bookshop one day and had never heard of before to be this amazing. This story is completely unique and yet parts of it remind me of other forms of media I enjoyed: The Flash, for an explosion causing people to develop powers; The Umbrella Academy, for the powers as well but also for a super powerful group of elite planning the fate of the world centered around an upcoming apocalypse; Infinite, for some members of the elite group believing that humanity is all wicked and deserves to be eliminated, as well as the main character getting glimpses into their past lives; and the final season of the 100, where an entity of “higher being” is to judge humanity and see if they are worthy of being spared or if they deserve to be wiped out.
I loved reading this book and couldn't put it down. I would have finished it two days ago if not for family events. I have not devoured a book this quickly in a long time. I appreciate how this book had me hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait to read more. I will be starting the second book as soon as it arrives to my house (I had to order it from the bookstore), but I am so upset that the third book doesn't come out until April 2024. I will be reading these two books again as soon as next April hits because I need to know everything. If this is a long series that won't be completed for a few years, I will scream.
The ending of this book has me so intrigued, and I want to know more! Who was talking through Anne's body in Iris' mind? Is Isoke Iris' real name, or is it something else? Is there a deeper connection between Jinn and Gram, or did he really just choose Jinn's father at random and there is nothing more to it? What is Jinn's real name? What happened to Max and Hawkins? Did the rest of the champions really die in the fire that hit Club Uriel and the Cerberus arena? I thought Hiva was the name of the apocalypse Iris would cause to wipe out humanity. If that is true, who is the person who introduced themselves as Hiva? Is he a god? The person who spoke as Anne left Iris riddles, but I figured out that they were just sentences said backwards, and one of them was “Do not turn from me for it is I who makes you”. Is that being the same person who introduced themselves as Hiva, and are they divinity?
I. AM. SO. INTRIGUED!!!!!!
