The Breach

An action-packed adventure book right until near the end, when the climax failed to deliver. The author kept raising the stakes, and at one point it became clear he put himself in a corner. I did not like the final revelation at all, the villain was a let down for me. The protagonists never had a chance.

Finally a book that I thoroughly enjoyed ripping through. Sometimes serendipity causes you to rate books higher than you normally would and this is likely one of those times. Patrick lee gets close to Matthew Reilly kind of speeds i.e with the exception of Scarecrow (Now that is the fastest book I have read). The science fiction is very superficial and something written about a million times. The pace is excellent but its the plot that keeps you hooked. You always feel on step behind and that is a hallmark of excellent writing. Patrick also does not spend too much time with back stories for his characters nor does he make them very smart which is pretty refreshing. All in all its an excellent flight read. Not to be read if you have a presentation the next morning though!
